By The River

about

My new friend Mark Gostnell showed up at my studio last week with this great song and a wonderful singer, Jenika Jade wanting to hear some 3 part harmonies on it. Being the recording opportunist that I am I figured we should track it so we could all remember our harmonies. Turns out the rough mix, featured here, has a vibe so I wanted to share it...

lyrics

Lay down darlin' by the river by the river
Let your body relax, let your mind be still
You can lay down here in the grass by the river
We can spend the night in the morning's chill
I'll nudge you awake with some bread and honey
I'll nudge you awake with a gentle hand
I will smile on you as you lay by the water
Lay by the water at the river's bend

I saw you standing on the other shore
As the river rolled as the river rolled
When I looked back you were there no more
As the river rolled along

Lay down darlin' neath the willow tree
Near the willow tree as the river rolls
You can dream your dream as the water sings
In the shade of the willow I will nurse your soul
I'll nudge you awake with some bread and honey
Nudge you awake with some coffee too
I will smile on you as you dream your dream
I'll be at your side when the dream comes true

The sun was setting behind the trees
As the river rolled as the river rolled
When I saw you swimming across to me
As the river rolled along

My dark thoughts are gone now
My dark thoughts are gone
My dark thoughts are gone now
And I'm walking cross the water

Lay down darlin'
Lay down darlin'
